The Cosmological Argument... for the Existence of God
From Personality, Empiricism, & God  on the Road to Emmaus
The Cosmological argument for the existence of God, as such things go, is quite simple, intuitive, and (I think) compelling.  There appears to be no way around it.
It is, briefly, the argument that “If anything exists at all, then something must exist uncaused.”
If that is not true, then the empirical world remains hidden in a cloud of unknowing, and empirical science cannot operate.  So the Biblical view of things with a Creator God who gives order to the created empirical world is then the very foundation for empirical science.
That is also, then, the fundamental argument against random chance selection as an explanation for the way the empirical world is, of how it got to be here.  That is true, furthermore, because the “uncaused cause”, it turns out, must be a personal being, a “Somebody”, not an “It” or a “Something”.
The cosmological argument also provides the basis for epistemology, the terms by which we can understand the meaning of the phrase “empirical truth” – because the argument ties together the meanings of the notions of ‘possible’, ‘cause’, and ‘exist’.
Neither the secular nor the pagan worlds can do that.
The PROBLEM - the collapse of objectivity -- how the Newtonian worldview failed to secure objectivity, long ago seen by George Berkeley, David Hume (destruction of Newton's notion of "cause"), and Immanuel Kant -- but all this was ignored because Newton's worldview was thought to be necessarily attached to the enormously successful “secularized" science.  It took ‘til the 20th century to visibly collapse under the assault of relativity and quantum mechanics.   No one noticed much that there was a Biblical cosmology waiting in the wings (which this book tires to address).  Newton's mathematics did not fail, but his metaphysics was inadequate, that is, the worldview of inert massy atoms bumping around to form the cosmos.
George Berkeley's SOLUTION -- with unintended assists from Hume (destruction of Newton’s causal concept) and Kant (think "objective unity of apperception”, and what must be added to the possible to account for the existing. ).
The Cosmological argument for God does several things: defines the meaning of 'meaning', establishes the bottom foundation for both logical and empirical truth, creates a rational and personalist (rather than impersonal) cosmos, defines the meaning of ‘person’, establishes persons (not things) as the basic ontological entities, prevents the fatal "infinite regress"..... the black hole of cosmology.
The cosmological argument for God is the Biblical doctrine of creation in substantial philosophical format -- the solid metaphysical foundation upon which all Biblical theology must be based.  It is the metaphysical answer to random, chance evolution as the explanation of the cosmos.  It is the necessary metaphysical undergirding for inductive reasoning.
Let the public decide....

This seminar is on the two basic worldviews by which the cosmos can be understood, the Biblical Worldview and the Secular/Pagan ("Perennial") Worldview.  There are only two basic worldviews (though with many different, and sometimes important, cultural renditions), which simplifies some of the most important issues.
(Note: Aldous Huxley, an English philosopher of the early 20th century, wrote The Perennial Philosophy, in which he claimed that there was only one basic philosophy, and that all philosophies and religions were examples if this one basic pattern.  He did not realize that the Biblical view did not fit that pattern, and is the substantial alternative to the Perennial.)
One can compare the major differences between the worldview given in the Bible, of a Creator of all that is who is also Sovereign over all that is, and its opposite, the Secular/Pagan worldview, which has neither creator nor sovereign.  All the ground rules change between these two worldviews, so it is very important to understand their differences, and to make an honest effort to decide which worldview is the truth.
The Biblical cosmos is the product of intelligent design.  The Perennial worldview has no creator or sovereign, and comes into being by chance or some unknown process out of a usually unknowable substance.
Which worldview is the truth of the matter makes an enormous difference to how we can live.  If the Biblical worldview is the truth, if we live in fact in that kind of world, then something like the Bible would make good sense.  If the Perennial worldview is the real world, then the Bible is false in its picture of reality.  If one understands the two worldviews, with their limitations and advantages, one can much more readily lead people to a rational and graceful confrontation of what is at stake.
Though one would not know it from listening to most Christians, the Biblical worldview is far and away the more logically consistent and empirically verifiable of the two.  In every substantial issue, the Biblical view wins, hands down, over the Perennial view (whether secular or pagan).  Or so that will be asserted and proposed....   That is, of course, not the “received view” abroad today.  Let the viewer decide.
God designed the cosmos to reflect His image, just as on a much deeper level He designed Adam and Eve to reflect His image, male and female.  The pagan worldview, as wrong as it was, did understand that gender images were fundamental to the workings of the cosmos.  Secularism throws all that out, turning the cosmos and we humans into a genderless, neutral machine.
But God, in Genesis 1:26-28, puts gender right at the center of life, a fact Christians have largely missed, to our detriment.  When the gender issues are properly focused and explained, they change the nature of the public debate on family, marriage, and sexual behavior on a much deeper and wider level than has been appreciated by those on any side of the discussion.
Yahweh or the Great Mother? gives new and powerful insights into how the Judeo-Christian world can take the offensive in almost every area of public debate – on both a personal spiritual level and in the public arena and the restoration of moral consensus in the West.

The seminar will run for six sessions, one night per week, for approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours -- depending on the length of the Q & A after the approximately 1+ hour presentation.

Coming Seminar -> the Theology of Civil Government
Why Government NEEDS God
Beginning Tuesday, September ???, 2011 –  7 p.m. (Pacific Time)
“Huh!  God and theology have no place in Civil Government.....!”
Well, that is what some folks who are ill-informed, or who might want to control you, want you to believe.  Godly government is in fact the foundation of all stable political freedom.  Secular government, both in history and in logic, drifts toward centralization of power , and therefore toward tyranny.   See, for example, www.hawaii.edu/powerkills.
We present here the historical and logical evidence for the authority of God as the basis for civil government. Romans 13:1 is not just St. Paul expositing religious fluff, it is solid, concrete natural law, right from the mind of God, based on unimpeachable logic.
Our public and political freedoms come from God just as do our personal salvation freedoms.   The Public freedoms are indeed founded on the personal freedoms.  Salvation is the stabilizing factor for all human stability, and thus for all human freedom.

The seminar will run for five sessions, one night per week, for approximately 1 1/2 hours -- depending on the length of the Q & A after the approximately 1+ hour presentation.
The final session will tie up leftovers,
explore how to put the information to work for the salvation of souls, the health of nations,
the Kingdom of God, and for further debate on the issues.

Sessions: 5     Cost: $21.00 (CA residents pay 8.25% CA tax.)
Time: Tuesday evenings, 7 pm (Pacific Time) for approx. 1½ hours.    Dates: July. ???, 2011 To be announced.

The Five Decisions for a Whole & Holy Personhood
...leading to intellectual, moral, and spiritual maturity
from Chapter 2 of Biblical Inner Healing

The Healing of Memories
Submitting our imaginations to the healing power of God
from
Biblical Inner Healing
The Healing of Memories gives a view of human nature, consistent with the Cosmological Argument for God, and with the Biblical worldview, that the basic entities in the cosmos are persons, not things, and that personal relationships are what life is all about.  The two basic relationships are those of dependency and autonomy, and those of authority and obedience.
Those two basic categories are what we lose in the Fall, that is, in our separation from our Creator.  They are also fundamental to our basic personhood.  Salvation thus means the restoration of our fundamental personhood, which can be accomplished only through the restoration of our relationship to God.  Our human resources can point us in the right direction, and help the beginning of Godly relationship, but only in our personal relationship with God Himself can they be competed and fulfilled.
So psychological maturity and health are all part of the salvation/redemption/sanctification package.
