Biblical Inner Healing ....is meant for those in pursuit of their own wholeness, as well as a textbook for university and seminary students, and is thus written in a format and language which is common sense and easy to grasp. The study of the soul is not limited to scholars, and is here made available for the man-on-the-street. Biblical Inner Healing has study guides for each chapter, recommendations for local church use, and practical suggestions for developing the reader’s personal spiritual and emotional health.
Biblical Inner Healing helps fill a gaping hole in the Christian understanding of human nature by bringing together science and theology. Dr. Fox honors the credible insights of empirical psychology, but draws them into the worldview of the Bible, where persons, not things, are the fundamental objects of life, and where values focus on righteous and loving relationships, not on “feeling good” and not on abstract “principles” out of touch with life in the trenches.
Morality, our reason for being (see The Law & the Grace of God) is fundamental to emotional health, not an enemy of it. The Biblical worldview, with the law and the grace of God, provide the only reasonable context in which we can fully understand what it means to be healthy, how we get broken, and how we can become again the both whole and holy persons God intends. Wholeness and holiness are part and parcel of each other. Biblical Inner Healing keeps a steady eye on the need for truth-seeking in the healing process. Only the truth sets us free, so truth-seeking is a fundamental aspect of inner healing. We must be truth-seekers if we intend to be disciples of Jesus who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Only then can we receive the deepest gifts of healing.
Biblical Inner Healing fills a role in the schema of The Road to Emmaus by giving the foundations for a Biblical psychology, a fairly complete understanding of human nature and how we operate. The basic principles can (and should) begin to be taught to grade-school children, and most of the book is suitable reading for high school students.
This usability with children relies on the fact that the Biblical worldview is primarily about personal relationships, which is why the Bible itself is a history, a story, not primarily about theological abstractions.
